Move from XDS to XDS MAX
Many fleets continue to operate legacy XDS systems, and Certified Power Solutions supports those units through refurbishment and repair. As customers plan future equipment updates, some choose to transition to XDS MAX, the next-generation integrated plow and spreader control. XDS MAX offers updated hardware, a modern control architecture, and improved installation design while maintaining the familiar operating purpose of the original XDS system.
Let's talk about upgrading!
Why Fleets Consider Updating
Legacy XDS systems have been in service for many years, and fleets often contact us when these units begin to show their age, require repeated refurbishments, or need updated programming. We continue to fully support these systems, and many customers refurbish their heads to keep equipment reliable. Others begin exploring whether updating their system during a new truck build or planned equipment cycle is the right next step.
Legacy XDS and XDS MAX Overview
Legacy XDS
The legacy XDS platform provides integrated plow and spreader control through a compact head unit with a membrane keypad and proven control layout. These systems remain supportable through refurbishment and repair.
XDS MAX
XDS MAX is the updated generation of this system. It features new hardware, an updated electronics platform, and a redesigned installation approach that aligns with the MAX product family. XDS MAX is not a drop-in replacement for the legacy XDS head. It is a system-level update built on a new platform.
Key Differences in the Transition
Moving from XDS to XDS MAX involves replacing the legacy XDS head with the MAX version and installing the associated MAX components. Because the underlying system architecture is different, upgrading requires a new installation tailored to the MAX design.
Both systems support integrated plow and spreader control, but XDS MAX delivers a more modernized hardware platform with improved serviceability and forward compatibility.
Planning the Transition
Many fleets continue to maintain their legacy XDS heads through refurbishment. When a head is sent in, we upgrade the battery pack, clean up the programming, flash the unit with the latest software, and load the customer's software before returning it to service. For some customers, this refurbishment extends the life of their equipment. Others choose to update their system during a planned truck replacement or broader equipment refresh. Certified Power Solutions works with each fleet to understand system condition, long-term plans, and the best timing for a transition.
Support Throughout the Update Process
Our team helps customers evaluate the behavior of their existing XDS system and determine whether continued refurbishment or a system update is the best path. When a fleet chooses XDS MAX, we provide guidance on the components required, installation considerations, and what to expect from the newer platform.
